Personal Profile

I was born in Suffolk County Long Island NY and moved to Trinidad and Tobago at the age of 7 where I resided for 12 years with my single mother. Living in Trinidad allowed me to understand the basic comforts I was afforded in America but sometimes took for granted, like hot water, proper plumbing, easily accessible food, and adequate police response times. Despite Trinidad's third world country status, I was able to establish well rounded social skills, flourish within a challenging and unfamiliar education system and above all else I developed a desire to progress continuously in a chosen career. Trinidad however provided little to no career opportunities for poverty-stricken families such as my own and also provided little means to climb out of poverty. I returned to New York at the age of 19 where I became a housekeeper/environmental service aide and utilized the benefits of my union which payed for college tuition and became a registered nurse.Â
